Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) has announced that Chief Executive Officer Mpumi Mpofu will step down at the end of her fixed-term contract on 30 June 2026, after six years at the helm.

In a statement released to the media on Thursday, Board Chairperson Irvin Phenyane said Mpofu had led the organisation through a challenging period for the global aviation sector and played a key role in stabilising operations and driving the company’s financial recovery.

“On behalf of the Board, we thank Ms Mpofu for her dedicated service to Airports Company South Africa over the past six years. She has led the organisation through an unprecedented period within the global aviation sector and has overseen ACSA’s operations and financial recovery while advancing critical strategic initiatives that have strengthened the company’s long-term position,” Phenyane said.

“The Board and CEO have agreed on a carefully managed transition, with clear terms of reference and mutual cooperation.”

He also revealed that the board has appointed Charles Shilowa as Acting Chief Executive Officer with effect from July 1 2026.

Shilowa is currently ACSA’s Group Executive for Capital Infrastructure Asset Management, a position he has held since July 2023.

He previously held senior leadership positions at Rand Merchant Bank, the South African Revenue Service (SARS), Sasol Technology and Unilever.

“Ms Mpofu will continue to serve in her role until the conclusion of her contract and will work closely with the Acting CEO, Board and the executive team to ensure a seamless handover and continued operational stability across the organisation”.
