Ethiopian Airlines has announced to customers that it will serve more areas of the African continent, right in time for the holiday season.
This expansion follows the addition of Mauritius as a destination, which Ethiopian Airlines started offering flights to back in July of this year.
The three new destinations, and their start dates for flights, later in 2026 are: Nacala (27th October), Port Harcourt (1st December), and Durban (12th December).
We’re sure many South Africans will be interested in flights to Durban, especially as Ethiopian Airlines already supports many other local airports. This gives holidaymakers and those wanting to return home another option to get to and from the popular destination.
As for why these three were chosen, no direct answer is provided in the communications we received, aside from a desire to “strengthen connectivity across Africa” and “[offer] more convenient and seamless travel options for both business and leisure travellers.”
Finally, the airline provides the following descriptions of each of its new locations:

Durban – South Africa’s vibrant coastal city is closer than ever. Ethiopian Airlines’ service to Durban offers seamless connections to a destination known for its golden beaches, diverse culture, and lively atmosphere. Soak up the sunshine, explore Durban’s beautiful coastline, and experience a unique blend of African, Indian, and colonial influences.
