Ethiopian Airlines is expanding its African network with the launch of new passenger services to Nacala, Mozambique, and Port Harcourt, Nigeria, while resuming daily flights to Durban, South Africa, strengthening Addis Ababa’s role as a major aviation hub connecting Africa with Asia.
The new services will be introduced between October and December 2026, providing passengers from Singapore and Southeast Asia with additional connections to African destinations through Ethiopian Airlines’ hub at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport.
The airline will begin operating flights to Nacala, Mozambique, three times a week from October 27, with services running on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays via Blantyre, Malawi.
Flights to Port Harcourt, Nigeria, will begin on December 1, operating four times a week on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
Ethiopian Airlines will also resume daily services to Durban, South Africa, from December 11, restoring a direct connection between the South African port city and the airline’s Addis Ababa hub.
The expansion is aimed at supporting growing trade and business links between Southeast Asia and Africa, with Singapore serving as a major regional trade and logistics center.
Ethiopian Airlines currently operates five weekly flights between Singapore Changi Airport and Addis Ababa, allowing passengers to connect to the three newly served destinations through Addis Ababa.
The expansion comes after a strong financial year for Ethiopian Airlines. During the 2025/26 fiscal year, the airline group reported a 20 percent increase in revenue to $9.1 billion, while passenger numbers rose by 10 percent to 20.7 million. Cargo volumes increased by 16 percent to 897,000 tonnes.
The airline has also continued expanding its international network, which has grown to more than 145 destinations, including the recent launch of services to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
The new routes further strengthen Ethiopian Airlines’ strategy of using Addis Ababa as a gateway between Africa and global markets, particularly as commercial and passenger links between Africa and Asia continue to grow.
Ethiopian Airlines currently operates passenger and cargo services to more than 160 destinations across five continents and is pursuing its Vision 2035 strategy to become one of the world’s 20 most competitive aviation groups.
The airline is also pursuing a multi-hub strategy in Africa through partnerships and affiliated airlines in Togo, Malawi, Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
