African airlines, particularly those based in South Africa, have emerged as one of the strongest performers for punctuality in the Middle East and Africa, according to the Cirium 2025 Middle East & Africa Airlines On-Time Performance Report.

Of the top 10 airlines ranked across the region, three African carriers made the list, all from South Africa, showing the country’s growing reputation for operational reliability in commercial aviation.

    Safair leads the region.

South African low-cost carrier Safair topped the entire regional ranking, posting a 91.06% on-time arrival rate across 62,805 tracked flights. The airline also recorded a 98.60% flight completion factor, alongside strong departure punctuality, placing it ahead of both Middle Eastern legacy and low-cost carriers.

Safair’s performance positions it not only as Africa’s most punctual airline in the ranking, but also as the best-performing carrier overall in the Middle East and Africa.

Airlink and SAA reinforce South Africa’s presence

Another South African carrier, Airlink, ranked fifth in the regional table, achieving an 84.47% on-time arrival rate across 84,361 flights. The airline’s completion factor stood at 99.80%, indicating minimal cancellations and consistent schedule execution.

South African Airways (SAA) also featured among the top 10, ranking eighth with an 81.26% on-time arrival rate from 24,461 tracked flights, reflecting steady operational performance as the airline continues its post-restructuring recovery.

Cirium tracked 849,714 flights across the Middle East and Africa in 2025, with an overall on-time arrival rate of 84.86% and a 97.63% flight completion rate.

While Middle Eastern airlines accounted for the majority of operators in the top 10, Africa’s presence, led entirely by South African carriers, was notable given the scale and complexity of operations in the region.
