Juba, South Sudan — Turkish Airlines has removed Juba from its future flight schedules, turning an April route suspension into a permanent exit from South Sudan, according to a report by Business Insider Africa.

The airline removed five African destinations from its long-term plans: Juba (South Sudan), Luanda (Angola), Kinshasa (DRC), Libreville (Gabon), and Lusaka (Zambia).

Schedules previously showed flights resuming after October 24. However, Business Insider Africa confirms the carrier has pulled these routes entirely to reallocate aircraft across its network.

The decision removes a direct flight link between South Sudan and Turkey, which connected passengers to Europe, North America, and Asia via Istanbul.

Turkish Airlines launched the Istanbul–Entebbe–Juba route in June 2022, operating three flights per week with Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.

The service carried business travelers, diplomats, aid workers, and passengers from the South Sudanese diaspora.

Its departure leaves Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways, and flydubai to service remaining international air traffic out of Juba.

Carriers operating in Juba cite costs for jet fuel, currency access, and passenger volumes as operational factors in the region.
