(AA) – British Airways announced on Thursday that it will reduce its number of flights to the Middle East this summer while increasing services to India and Africa, reflecting the airline’s network changes amid the ongoing tensions related to the Iran war.
The UK carrier plans to resume flights to Riyadh in mid-May, and to Dubai, Doha, and Tel Aviv on July 1. However, these services will be limited to just one daily flight, the airline said in a statement.
Flights from London Heathrow to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia will be suspended, with all services to the city grounded from April 24. Reduced services to Dubai, Doha, and Tel Aviv are expected in the second half of the year.
The company halted most flights to the Middle East shortly after the outbreak of the Iran war on Feb. 28. With airspace in the region beginning to reopen, other carriers such as Gulf Air of Bahrain are preparing to resume flights to London.
Services to India’s Bangalore will double from June 1 to Oct. 24, while an additional flight to and from Mumbai will operate for 19 days at the start of June.
Between mid-July and Aug. 20, three extra weekly flights will run from London to Delhi.
Iran and the US announced a two-week ceasefire on Tuesday, mediated by Pakistan, aimed at paving the way for a final agreement to end the war launched by Washington and Israel against Tehran on Feb. 28. The armed conflict has left thousands dead and wounded.
