Africa World Airlines is set to deepen its West African footprint with the launch of direct Accra-Abidjan flights on August 31, opening a new connection between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire.

The service will operate four times a week- Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays; giving travelers more direct access between Accra and Abidjan, two key commercial centres in the sub-region.

The expansion adds Côte d’Ivoire to AWA’s growing regional network, which already includes destinations in Nigeria and Burkina Faso, alongside its domestic operations.

For the airline, the new route also comes with a push to strengthen engagement with travel agencies and other trade partners, who play a critical role in driving passenger traffic.

Speaking at AWA’s Media Soirée and Agency Forum, Head of Commercial Portia Agyeiwaa Akowuah said the engagement was particularly important ahead of the launch.

“Today’s forum was to have an engagement with our customers, I mean our trade partners. They are a very important or vital part of our business.”

She says feedback from the partners will help the airline improve the new service and respond to passenger expectations.

“So having that engagement with them, we saw the need for it especially because we’ll be launching our Abidjan route on 31st August.”

AWA is entering the corridor with an emphasis on operational reliability, an area the airline says remains central to its competitive positioning.

“African World Airlines is known for its safety, reliability and on-time performance.”

Akowuah says feedback from the forum showed that travel partners continue to value the airline’s punctuality.

“You’ll all attest that in today’s meeting, most of our customers or most of our trade partners are happy with our on-time performance.”

She is urging customers to maintain that confidence as the airline expands its regional operations.

“We encourage our customers to continue having the confidence they have with us as being the safest and most reliable airline in Ghana and in West Africa.”

The new service will give AWA another foothold in the West African market as competition intensifies for regional passengers and airlines seek to build commercially viable intra-African networks.
