Ethiopian Airlines and Visa have agreed to collaborate on expanding the rollout and use of Visa co-branded payment products.
The arrangement builds on an existing relationship between the two organisations and aims to strengthen digital payment adoption while improving the customer experience for travellers using Ethiopian Airlines’ services.
The partnership is intended to support wider use of co-branded Visa cards, enabling customers to make payments for travel and everyday purchases through digital channels. It also aligns with Ethiopian Airlines’ expansion strategy and Visa’s focus on cross-border payment infrastructure.
Expansion of co-branded payment solutions
The collaboration will focus on increasing adoption of co-branded Visa cards while promoting secure digital transactions across Ethiopian Airlines’ customer base. Both organisations plan to support marketing activity and product initiatives designed to integrate payments more closely with booking, loyalty and travel services.
Visa’s global payment infrastructure will be used to support secure transactions across markets, with an emphasis on both domestic and international travel payments.
Yared Endale, Cluster Head Eastern Africa, Visa: “Travel and payments are intrinsically linked, and this collaboration reflects our shared commitment to simplifying how customers pay and travel. By deepening our relationship with Ethiopian Airlines, we are supporting the evolution of digital payments while helping deliver more value, convenience and choice to travelers across the region.”
Strengthening travel payments and customer experience
The partnership also targets improvements in the overall travel journey, including booking processes, payment options and customer engagement. The companies aim to encourage broader use of electronic payments in aviation-related services and strengthen integration between financial products and travel experiences.
Rahel Assefa, Ethiopian Airlines Group Marketing Vice President: “At Ethiopian, we continuously strive to provide our passengers with a seamless range of options to access and enjoy our services. Our collaboration with Visa aims to further enhance payment options for our customers and increase convenience during every payment.”
Ethiopian Airlines continues to operate an extensive international network connecting Africa with global destinations, while Visa maintains a broader strategy of working with airlines and financial institutions to support digital payment systems across the region.
