The Airlines Association of Southern Africa (AASA) has elected a new chairperson and deputy chairperson to serve for the next 12 months following its 56th annual general meeting in Mauritius.
Miguel Caneiro, chief executive officer of TAAG Angola Airlines, has been elected as chairperson of the association, while Dr Bao Mosinyi, general manager of Air Botswana, has been appointed deputy chairperson.
Commenting on the appointments, AASA CEO Aaron Munetsi said the new leadership team will support the association’s engagement with governments, regulators and industry stakeholders across the region.
“Miguel and Bao will provide guidance and support to AASA in our ongoing engagements with governments, aviation regulators, airport operators, air navigation service providers and other relevant role players in our advocacy work,” he said.
“Our goal is that policy, regulations, services and aviation infrastructure support and promote competitive, financially viable and environmentally sustainable, secure and safe air transport with comprehensive intra-African connectivity.”
AASA’s 2026 annual general assembly was held in Mauritius and sponsored by Airlink and South African Airways.
The event attracted more than 200 delegates representing airlines, airports, air navigation service providers, civil aviation authorities, aircraft and engine manufacturers, suppliers and other aviation stakeholders.
